Just some additional thoughts on the new generation of 2A3 tubes. The only ones I would seriously consider are the Kron Enterprises, the Sophia Electric, and the Emission Labs tubes. If I did not hear these side by side over an extended period of ti...

I looked at the schematic for Herb's 300B SET many years ago. It's been copied and slightly modified by many.... personally, I would not use it for a 300B amp... then again I probably wouldn't use it for a 2A3 or 45 either (I think my input/driver d...
BTW, I run today the Chinese 2A3 and they were much better then Sovtek tube, much-much better, in fact I was very surprise how bad the Sovtek were.
Having received a bunch of tubes, I have spent some time liste...

First, Adrian, Thanks for your feedback on the newer designed 2A3 tubes... very interesting. I've looked at all 3 of these brands before but have not as of yet purchased any (I have a large collection of 45 and 2A3 of various NOS US brands...
I assembled SUN 2A3 amp for my friend and found it to be quality kit and very easy assemble. Kit was old .I think late 90's so maybe quality deteriorated since then. I have variety of 300b Czech tubes and (Eml 300b , KR 300...

Dealing more with Sun Audio SV-2A3 kit it amassed me how bad the kit was. The guys made very cheap, in fact I hardly believe that this company has anything to do with Japan – it looks more like K-Mart level of amplifier. I heard a number of very posi...

But who says an A2-capable amp should actually be driven into A2 in use? I thought you planned to operate the amp well within its limits, to get the DHT benefits without subjecting the amp to the sorts of stress that always spoils these little thing...

Paul, Everyone has their personal favorite on the 45... I have several RCAs... still prefer the Sylvania over them. Also, I've never seen a 45 with anything but a black plate. RCA did make black plate 2A3 tubes which are more rare than their gray pl...
Joaco, thanks for sharing. You said that you use 2A3/45 amplifier, do you use choke or capacitance right after your rectifiers? It would be interesting if you plug a scope into your loaded regenerator and post a picture (ma...

Anyone know if Tribute still in business, and if not can recommend company that has double coil on single c core for 2A3?...

Yes, some of the people who "know the most", and can contribute so much indispensable information - up to a point - can be simultaneously so generally confused that it's literally wearying. Imagine gazing into a magic mirror, where everything is so...

Well, I experienced the same exact phenomena with using different 2A3 tubes as you remember, which I do believe has to do with the mechanical harmonics in part.
I do not remember that, it you wrote it then I mo...

Part 2 – Description and explanation
Anyone who have ears and a rudimental mind to understand what ears register, and anyone among them who played with MF channels driven by SET, know that subject of SET loading is imperative.
Let take for...

Thanks Romy.Sounds like tweeter on top will be best approach in my situation. The room is a good size and shape - 23ft x 15ft with 9ft ceiling . Plenty of room above. As you say the 288 on Azura does go to 12-13k OK with some beaming - almost enough re...
I run the driver tube at 170V @20mA. I don't think you need to run this tube at high current. It is very linear with wide signal swings at this bias.
Good operation points for use it as a driver. You might...
The wire, the coupling caps, the cathode resistors and many other things are superbly important but it is after the strategic topology is settled. In my view caps, resistor, wire and other things are responsible for the sou...
Running the higher B+ voltage (350 volts) with a 1K cathode bias resistor and the 2.5K load results in higher distortion than the text-book operating point, which is B+ of 300 volts and a 750 ohm cathode biasing resistor and ...

Why use the GM70 apart from its power potential? For one thing, it seems to require literally lethal voltages to become remotely listenable. Is it really "that" linear, to insist on it?But my experience with GM70 is quite imited. I ...

Jim, what is operational point of the 6E5P, what it drivers (how it coupled) and how do you bias the 5E5P? BTW, the clipping at the bottom is very good, very symmetrical. Try to measure which stage clips first: the driver or the output stage. One m...

Having listened for a while with the tubes, I have come to some conclusions. The three tubes I have seriously listened to are: Kron, Sophia, and Emission Labs. All the tubes are much better than any other modern 2A3 tubes I have tried. I felt my in...
When I said four transformers I meant that I can see 4 type of the tubes. The 2A3 with 700-80R on plate, YO186 with 1200R on plate, the 45 with 1800R on plate and 10Y with 5K on plate. Hey are requires different transforme...
It is obvious that 6SN7-2A3 and 6E6P direct have very different character. The 2A3 it feels like heavy-sunk time of tube and it constantly run a fully submerged. It has seriousness but it does not look at this point that i...

This is the idea that I like. It looks like it is a Slovakian company and this amps is two stage with a reasonable driver and it looks like they make their own 2A3.
Can you post or explain the topology of your 6SN7-2A3?
The amplifiers I use started from a kit I bought, the Moondog, so here you can see the basic topology. It is very simple. The first stage here can be eliminated,...

Romy and drnda,
When you speak of the "Chinese 2A3" which one do you mean? Romy, if you have the Shuguang 2A3C then I understand why you find it better than the Sovtek, no argument there! drdna, the Shuguang is a little more extended on top than t...
So it would require a new OPT to be made with around 3.5-4K primary impedance. The power the amplifier puts out is already far too much. I always have the volume dial around 1-2, so this will be okay. I don't have such an OPT on ...

My experience has been that tubes that run quiet and quiet down quickly and "properly" when tapped are almost always quiet with respect to self-noise and/or microphonics in use, apart from low level phono use. And most of my tubes tha...
